When the children went off to college, this couple leapt at the chance to spend more time in the city. Their light filled apartment in the West Village was rented, but once the lease was up, they quickly made their move and contacted us.
In our initial meeting, I asked the client “What are your favorite colors?” Silent for a moment, she said “I like brown.” I burst out laughing - it was the last color I thought anyone would ever name. “Me, too!” I said. And it’s true, my entire home is an homage to Mark Hampton brown. Instantly, I knew this collaboration was meant to be.
We quickly decided on a wide range of neutrals used across a diverse textural palette as a respite from the visual excitement of the city. With this soothing look and feel in mind, we drafted a streamlined furniture plan, combined clean lined new pieces and one of a kind vintage pieces, and then layered in a few but very special objéts and paintings. A vintage coffee table with a brown and cream tiled top also brought in hits of persimmon, burnt orange and blood red which we incorporated in light touches throughout the project.
The result of a wonderful collaboration, this new home has a warm welcoming feel - just like the owners, children and dogs who get to live here!
